Nuclear Renaissance - Real or Imaginary?
February 27, 2009
Norm Hansen attended the IEEE Fox Valley Subsection meeting
on Nuclear
Renaissance - Real or Imaginary?" at the IIT West Campus in Wheaton. Mr.
Fancher, IEEE Chicago Section, was the speaker and discussed the industries
plans to build nuclear power plants in the United States and other
countries.
While the United States has stopped building nuclear power plants other
countries have been building them and reprocessing the spent fuel. With the
government canceling Yucca Mountain facility for nuclear waste storage,
reprocessing may be a better alternative since only two to three percent of
the nuclear fuel is actually used.
The meeting was held on February
25, 2009 and approximately
150 people attendance.
