Modernization Plan
January 3, 2015
Last year, Chinas
Premier Li Keqiang announced a plan to move another 300 million Chinese
citizens into the cities over the next twelve years. Urbanization is one of
Premier Lis top priorities. It is a mechanism for modernization and future
economic growth.
The United States Secretaries of Commerce Penny Pritzker and
Energy Ernest Moniz are leading a Joint Department of Commerce and
Department of Energy Smart Cities - Smart Growth Business Development
Mission to China on April 12-17, 2015. Companies plan to meet and deliver
complete solutions to make cities more efficient, livable, and sustainable
by focusing on the key area: energy, transportation, buildings & homes,
water, and public services. For more information, please see
China Modernization Plan.
In 2011, China became
the world's largest power consumer by generating 4,476 Terawatt-hours. The
net generation of electricity will increase to 7,295 Terawatt-hour by 2020
and 11,595 Terawatt-hours by 2040. The industrial sector accounts for
three-quarters of China's electricity consumption. For more information,

EIA China Energy Overview.
To meet their energy
needs, China needs 300 clean power plants. Each power plant would generate
10 billion kilowatt hours of electricity per year, The 300 power
plants would generate 3 trillion kilowatt hours (3,000 Terawatt-hours) of
electricity. At ten cents per kilowatt-hour, the revenue would be $300
billion per year.
Better utilization of the
natural resources turns scarcities into surpluses. The Clean Power Plants
convert coal, oil, and biomass
into petrochemicals for making consumers & industrial
products rather than burning them and destroying our environment. China's
carbon dioxide emissions could be reduced by fifty percent.
Chinas Modernization
Plan moves 300 million Chinese citizens into the cities over in the next
twelve years. Chinas Economy grows
from $10 trillion to over $30 trillion. However, the real benefits come from
taking millions of people out of poverty and empowering them to fulfill
their dreams.
