Robert Forwards start at Commercialization
July 1, 2008
Twenty years ago,
Robert Forward, American physicist, tried to commercialize mirror matter or
in the scientific community it is called antimatter. He received a grant
from U.S. Air Force to study the mirror matter. He wrote a book entitled,
Mirror Matter: Pioneering Antimatter Physics,
which is available on the
Internet. Robert Forward consulted with NASA and
U.S. Air Force on using
mirror matter
or antimatter for space propulsion; and in
his book, he talks about people taking spacecraft to visit colonies on the
Moon in hours and Mars in days.
Today,
we know comets are composed of natural sources of mirror
matter. Comets masses are measured in billions of metric tons,
which means any one of the hundreds of comets could supply the World's
energy needs for billions of years. The quantity of
mirror matter
in our solar system is a million times less than the one part per
billion that scientists have estimated. The remaining
mirror matter
or antimatter is in the Oort Cloud orbiting the solar system beyond
Pluto.
